First Solo Competition!

Me, my wife Robin and my youngest daughter Ebony went to the Madison Ribberfest.  This was ISBBQ’s first solo competition.  We had a tremendous time.  We made all kinds of mistakes, got advice from a lot of wonderful people and learned more than I thought I ever would.  My good friend Curt and his wife Phyllis came by and share a lot of great pointers.  Curt was full of advice; and though I may have been running around busy and seemingly unattentive, I was soaking in every bit.  Phyllis is such a wonderful encourager!  I really appreciated have them both around.

Robin has never done anything like this before and neither has Ebony; however, they came through like champs!  Robin prepared the turn in boxes and Ebony was the runner who actually turned in the boxes on time.  I can’t even begin to express how important they were to pulling this event off with some dignity! :)   Below is a picture of Robin and Ebony doing their thing.

Overall we did very well for our first contest.  The highlights are: 2nd Place in Sauce and 15th in Chicken!  I took home $100 for the Sauce win!  Yippee, I got my name called!  I want to say thank you to all the friends and associates on the various BBQ forums I post on.  These brothers and sisters have helped me in so many ways!

I look forward to many more competitions and meeting many more new friends on the BBQ circuit!  Madison is a beautiful place and I cannot wait until next year when I go back and try to do even better than I did this time.

We're Going to Madison!

The Madison Ribberfest is one of the largest Indiana State Championship competitions. I did not know if I would be able to go because college expenses for our kids are fairly high. For Father’s Day, my wife gave me the entry fee as gift! I knew there was something good about this girl when I married her! :) This will be my first competition as Indy Smokehouse BBQ. The team so far is me and my friend and potential father-in-law, Keith. This is one golden guy who will do anything you ask without hesitation and, he knows how to cook! Get ready Madison, ISBBQ is coming!

I expect that my expenses for this competition will be close to $250. A donation of any amount to help buy meat, gas, supplies, etc. for the event will be greatly appreciated. Just click “Make A Donation” button on the right side of this page or the link in the menu above.
